Plus hotspots like Benalmadena, Fuengirola, Marbella and Puerto Banus all have incredible nightlife year round.

If you’re dreaming about a fun holiday in the sun but haven’t sorted out your accommodation yet, contact us for holiday rental properties with last minute availability.

Here’s our guide for where to head out and enjoy a party on the Costa del Sol this summer.

Beach Clubs

There is a huge range of Beach Clubs to choose from along the Costa del Sol, from relaxed affairs to party hubs and everything in between. Most have special nights and bring in DJs, so you can soak up the sun, enjoy cocktails and listen to fantastic music from your sun lounger. Check out Nikki Beach in Elviria, La Sala by the Sea or Ocean Club in Marbella if you want to party, or a wide range of others for a more relaxed but very cool place to hang out this summer.

The biggest concert series of the year is the Starlite music festival in Marbella. Starting on the 5th of July and running until the 23rd of August there is an amazing line up of Spanish and international artists including The Beach Boys, Kool & The Gang, Jamie Cullum, Sting, John Legend, Luis Fonsi, David Bisbal, Jason Derulo and many more. There are also DJs, groups and events around the autdiorium where there are great bars and food stalls to enjoy. Definitely one of the biggest parties in town.

Puente Romano

Marbella’s Puente Romano is a fantastic place to eat, drink and party. There are loads of great restaurants around its central courtyard and a number of funky bars and a nightclub. The square transforms itself into a cool bar on summer nights and there are lots of excellent events during the summer season. The Puente Romano tennis club is also welcoming The Jacksons to perform a concert on the 8th of August.

Puerto Banus

Puerto Banus is well known for its huge concentration of bars, restaurants and nightclubs, so is a mecca for party animals throughout the year. Get your glad rags on and hit the town, starting off with a walk through the port and ending in one of the superclubs on the square. Another very popular option is La Sala, just up the road in Nueva Andalucia, where you can eat, drink and dance the night away.

Tapas Tour

A favourite past time of the Spanish on long, hot summer evenings is to do a tapas bar crawl, where the streets are buzzing from 9pm to midnight. Find a lively area with lots of restaurants and have a drink and try a different dish in each, soaking up the atmosphere and sampling the delicious food.

Young and old come out to party for the summer ferias in Andalucia, and you should definitely join in the fun! Head to your local tourist office and find out what ferias are happening near you during your stay and go ahead and join in.

Get in the mood for love with a romantic getaway

Get in the mood for love with a romantic getawayThere’s no escaping Valentine’s Day, with cards, balloons, flowers and gifts starting to fill the shelves as soon as Christmas is out of the way. But if you haven’t decided what to do yet and want to avoid the clichés or do something very special, then why not whisk the one you love away from it all for some winter sun in Spain. This year 14th February falls on a Sunday, so it’s a great opportunity to go for a short break, from Friday to Monday. We have a range of holiday rentals available for short breaks, so please just ask to see the collection.

The Costa del Sol is a great place to spend Valentine’s Day, as it’s not so commercial or over the top as the UK, yet still feels very special. Many of the International restaurants put on special events for the night and you can see a list of great options for Valentine’s on the Costa del Sol on My Destination Marbella.

Alternatively you can create your own romantic moments. To help you create something really special, here are a few ideas (don’t worry, we won’t tell her you didn’t think of it yourself) –

  • Picnic on the Beach – Sitting on the beach with a bottle of champagne or Spanish cava, ham, cheese, strawberries and chocolates with the sand between your toes is a very special experience and even better when it’s in February and so cold at home. This is a low cost, but very romantic experience, we’d suggest you go down there in the early evening and watch the sun go down.
  • Take the cable car up to the top of Mount Calamorro in Benalmadena and enjoy the 15 minute ride and exceptional views from the top. Hide a bottle of fizz in your bag and find a secluded spot for a unique Valentine’s moment.
  • Head to the slopes for a day of skiing in the Sierra Nevada and cuddle up in a cozy bar for a mulled wine. You can be down on the coast again for a romantic meal by the beach in Marbella – that’s pretty hard to beat for a very special someone.
  • Go to a local market and cook a delicious meal to enjoy on your terrace. Then as evening draws in, snuggle up by the fire in your holiday rental, for a perfect evening away from it all.

We can find you the perfect holiday rental property to make the most romantic gesture or even pop the question. Contact us and let us know what you need and we can suggest a list of properties which will really impress, featuring heated pools, hot tubs, saunas, four poster beds and open fires, so you won’t leave anything to chance. Happy Valentines!

Experience the Magical Tradition of San Juan Festival

Spanish festival, “San Juan” takes place all over Spain on the shortest night of the year to celebrate the beginning of summer. This is seen as a celebration of change from night to day, where people pay thanks to pagan gods who are believed to become visible during the night.
Andalucía celebrates the magical experience on the 23rd June where people gather on the beach to share a drink and some food, while embarking on the ritual of jumping over the large bonfires which have been built by many men, women and children from around the Costa del Sol.
The second part of the tradition sees many people jump in for a quick dip in the sea at midnight, washing their hands and face in the water. This is believed to cleanse the soul while promoting good luck for the year ahead.
There are various concerts, BBQ´s, bonfires and live entertainment dotted around the coast at the time of the celebration, making this an enjoyable outing for all the family. So be sure to keep the evening of the 23rd free and head to your local beach for a chance to take part in a fabulous piece of Spanish paganism.
It is a good idea to bring some food and drink along to the evening along with a warm sweater which will allow you to enjoy the experience in comfort while watching the sun rise in the early hours on the morning of the 24th. Don´t forget to bring your camera to capture some stunning scenic images for the holiday album.

Flamenco Costa del Sol

One of the most common things associated with Spain is flamenco and Andalucia is famous for it, with both Seville and Jerez claiming that they are the birthplace of the style of dance. Wherever you go in Andalucia, flamenco plays an important part in their local fiestas with all the girls dressed in their flamenco dresses and all ages dancing together.

The origins of this dance are very interesting. It is thought that Gypsies in Southern Spain created flamenco music and dance in the 15th century, by blending their traditional dance and music from Sind, a northern region of India (now Pakistan) with the musical and cultural influences of Spain. If you want to learn more about the origins of flamenco, Ann Lee has written a very interesting article on Eye on Spain, you can also visit the Museum of Flamenco Arts in Malaga and learn all about it.

Not many people know that you can also watch authentic flamenco on the Costa del Sol. In Marbella the Ana Maria Tablao Flamenco is in the Old Town next to a beautiful church in Plaza Santa Cristo. This is supposed to be the most authentic show in town, but be warned it starts late with the doors not opening until midnight!

Another famous flamenco show on the Costa del Sol is at the hotel Torrequebrada in Benalmadena. This is a 3 hour extravaganza which takes place from Tuesday to Saturday at 10.30pm and lasts 3 hours. It costs 35€ per person including a drink on arrival.

There are flamenco routes all around the region and you can download the guide to flamenco in the area from the Costa del Sol tourist board website. This comprehensive guide tells you about all the styles the local artists and musicians and where you can go to experience flamenco in the area. They mention the Western Costa del Sol route with the Torremolinos Flamenco Festival in August, in October in Fuengirola there is a festival to celebrate the Virgin of the Rosary with flamenco in the streets and lots of special events to see. Mijas and Estepona both have singing competitions for flamenco singers and they recommend a number of good places to see flamenco all year round. Click here to download the guide.

There are fantastic self-catering accommodation options throughout the area. To book your holiday accommodation on the Costa del Sol visit our website and search through the options or email
