Summer events on the Costa del Sol

Summer events on the Costa del Sol

There have been some exciting events announced over the last few months, so we wanted to share the highlights with you to make sure you don’t miss a thing on your next holiday.

Marbella Feria 5-11th June

Many Costa del Sol residents feel that the summer season really begins with this week-long festival in Marbella. Expect parades, music, dancing, great food, concerts and plenty of fun. It begins with an amazing firework display on the beach Playa Faro at 11pm on the 5th which is definitely one to watch. The day feria will be held in the Parque Alameda and Avenida del Mar right in the centre of town and then the night feria will go up to the fairground area by La Cañada shopping centre.

James Rhodes Concert 29th June Fuengirola

One of the best classical musicians around at the moment, James Rhodes will be playing at the Fuengirola castle at the end of June as part of his Fire on all Sides tour. This is one of the many great concerts and music events taking place at Sohail Castle over the summer, so if you’re staying in Fuengirola, make sure you check out the events programme.

Ojeando Festival 13 & 14th July Ojen

For something completely different, head up to the normally quiet white village of Ojen for this two-day independent music festival. Showcasing excellent Spanish pop and rock bands and new talent right in the centre of the village, across three stages, this is a lot of fun and great value, with a 2 day pass costing just 25€. It’s within easy access of Marbella and you can even camp up there if you want the full festival experience.

Pet Shop Boys 18th July Marbella

The Pet Shop Boys are performing in Marbella as part of the amazing Starlite line up. They are well known for their impressive stage shows, combining music, art and spectacle and this should be amazing in the old quarry in the hills of Marbella. The following day, sees an intriguing combination take to the stage – Sting and Shaggy! We can’t quite imagine how these two will perform together, but the mix will be fascinating to see.

Jamiroquai 22nd July Marbella

Also at Starlite, we’re looking forward to see the legendary Jay Kay bringing his future funk style to the auditorium in Marbella.

James Blunt 3rd August Marbella

Our final pick from the great concerts at Starlite this year is the singer songwriter James Blunt who is coming to Marbella as part of his “Afterlove Tour”.

Carlos Santana concert 9th August Fuengirola

This amazing musician is bringing his signature fusion style to the beautiful setting of Fuengirola’s Sohail Castle on the 9th of August.

UB40 Concert 16th August Estepona

If you’re holidaying in Estepona, there are lots of great events taking place in the town and at the bullring throughout the summer. Our top pick has to be UB40 in concert, where original members Ali Campbell, Astro, and Mickey Virtue, will be performing as part of their ‘A Real labour of Love’ 40th Anniversary Tour.

Kool & the Gang Concert 19th August Marbella

This great soul and funk band are performing live at the Puente Romano Tennis Club in August. This is a really nice venue for concerts in Marbella, as wherever you sit you are close to the action and have a great view.

If you don’t happen to be visiting the Costa del Sol when these great events are taking place, don’t despair, this is just the tip of the iceberg! We recommend consulting the events calendars on Marbella Azul and My Guide Marbella to see what’s going on during your stay – you won’t be disappointed.

Starlite announces acts for 2018

Despite the uncertainty about Starlite’s future in Marbella last year it seems like the organisers and the Town Hall have come to an agreement and this great music festival will take place this year. This is great news for the holiday makers who want to combine a sunshine and beach holiday with seeing some amazing acts live in concert. Today we’re answering your questions about Starlite and live music on the Costa del Sol to help you plan your next trip. What is Starlite? Starlite is a very popular music festival which takes place in a spectacular location just outside Marbella’s centre in July and August. Why is it so popular? Starlite offers a great combination of concerts with big names, live music sessions, gastronomy and bars. You can go up to Starlite for a drink or a bite to eat even when there isn’t a concert and they have added in live music sessions outside the main auditorium to offer cheaper tickets with an excellent atmosphere and some great performers. There will also be DJ sessions every night, which will be a great addition to your holiday this year. Who is playing this year? Lots of fantastic acts have been announced already, with many more to come over the coming months. We’re very excited that we can see the legendary Sting on the 19th of July, as his live performances are always wonderful. Il Divo will also be performing in July, bringing their “classical crossover” style to Marbella on the 28th of July. Fans of Spanish music and dance shouldn’t miss David Bisbal on the 20th of July and extraordinary dancer Sara Baras who will be performing on the 11th of August. James Blunt is also performing at Starlite, taking to the stage on the 3rd of August, as part of his Afterlove Tour. How can you get tickets? Tickets can be bought online here and you can already secure your tickets for all the artists that have been announced and also book tables for the DJ sessions. As there are lots more artists and events to be announced, sign up for the newsletter on the website so you can get all the updates https://starlitemarbella.com/en/ Where should I stay? Marbella, Nueva Andalucia and San Pedro are three wonderful holiday destinations which are within an easy cab ride of Starlite. The map isn’t giving me results again, the Marbella and Nueva Andalucia properties give a 404 error and when I click the links on the location pages they don’t give me any properties. FYI Where else can I see live music this year? We are lucky to be able to have a lot of excellent live music in bars, restaurants and festivals here on the Costa del Sol. However, they can be late to be announced, so as you plan your trip keep your eyes peeled! Fuengirola’s Sohail Castle and the Puente Romano Tennis Club always do great concerts and the ferias through the summer are wonderful if you like flamenco and Spanish pop. Check the website for concert promoter Crazy Music Productions and the event sections of MyGuideMarbella and Marbella Azul for what’s happening during your stay. Here are some highlights to look forward to – • If you’re an Indie Fan, head to the festival in the small village of Ojen just outside Marbella in the first weekend of July for Ojeando. • Dance music fans will enjoy the three day music festival Weekend Beach Festival in July near to Malaga and also the electronic music and dance festival at the beginning of August in Estepona. • In September the focus moves to Gibraltar for the MTV Gibraltar Calling on the 21st and 22nd which always attracts some very big names. Find out more Whichever concert or festival you choose they start and finish late, so we recommend choosing a conveniently located holiday rental property which you can reach by cab from the venue.
