Bringing your pets on holiday

When it comes to booking your holiday, instead of wondering who can look after the dog while you’re gone, why not bring him with you!?

Travelling abroad with your pets can be fairly straight forward whether you choose to come by plane, boat or car and there are some great ‘pet friendly’ holiday homes on the Costa del Sol so you need never be without them.

Always check the latest regulations before you travel though to ensure you have everything required to bring your pet into the country including pet passport and any necessary vaccinations or paperwork.

November and December is a great time to travel to Spain with pets as the weather is nice enough to go out for walks and adventures but not too hot for them. With so many beautiful areas to choose from on the Costa del Sol, you will be sure to find a holiday home you and your pet will love. Whether you want to stay somewhere secluded with plenty of land around, in the city with plenty of shops and things to do, up the mountains with great views, or by the beach, we can help you find the perfect holiday rental for you and your pet. Same as the UK, where ever you choose to take you dog/cat, always remember to pick up after them to avoid a hefty fine!

When travelling back to the UK after your holiday, be sure to check out the Pet Travel Scheme to ensure you comply with all regulations for bringing your pet from a foreign country back to the UK.

Travelling to Spain with pets

Pets are part of the family for many owners and they wouldn’t consider travelling without them. However, travelling with pets brings with it a few problems.

1. Accommodation – Hotels do not accept pets in the main and wouldn’t have sufficient space to keep most pets even if they did. This leaves you with self-catering accommodation which offers more space and flexibility for pet owners. Check with the company you’re using whether they accept pets and look for larger properties such as villas with private gardens to make sure the pets and the community is happy with the arrangements. We have a number of properties in Spain, France, Greece and Italy which allow pets and you can search for these on our Mediterranean self-catering accommodation website.

2. Regulations – Travelling with pets has been made easier with the introduction of the European Pet Passport which identifies your pet and shows that their vaccinations are up to date. There is also the Pet Travel Scheme (PETS), which is specifically about dogs, cats and ferrets travelling between UK and Ireland, and Europe without quarantine. It’s vital that you do your research before you go, with plenty of time to organise the correct documentation for your pet. AngloInfo has an excellent page all about travelling with pets which is an excellent starting point.

If you are looking for self-catering accommodation which allows pets, please give us a call or send an email detailing the type of animals you want to bring, the number and the area you’d like to be in and we can send you a list of appropriate holiday rentals for you.
