Start planning your 2022 getaways!

We love January, as we can start planning our next trip and dream of sunny skies and holidays. With the potential ease of Covid-19 restrictions on the horizon, why not let your thoughts turn to this year’s trips: here are a few great times to visit the Costa del Sol.

This is a fabulous time to visit the Costa del Sol, with so much more than the Easter bunny! It’s a time of processions and parades and an incredible display of religious devotion. Andalucía really does it in style, parading wonderful sculptures and art works through the streets and often accompanying it with music. Malaga is the most famous place to go for Easter in this region, but all towns and villages put on a great show and it’s a wonderful time to visit.

It will not surprise you that the most popular time to visit is the summer, with the hot weather, beautiful beaches and great “ferias” (week-long celebrations) drawing thousands of tourists to the Costa del Sol. However, this doesn’t just mean July and August. If you aren’t restricted by school holidays, wonderful times to visit are June and September, where the temperatures aren’t as high and the area isn’t as crowded, but you can still enjoy the full summer experience.

If you’re not a fan of the over commercialised Halloween celebrations in the UK, come over and see how it’s done here. The 1st of November is the Day of the Dead, when families honour their relatives by visiting the cemetery. Also, at the end of October is the Saints Festival in Ojen and Istan near Marbella, and the Chestnut festival in Alcaucín. These traditional celebrations are really interesting and a great way to see another side of Halloween.

Christmas and Three Kings

I know we’ve just taken down the decorations, but we have to mention Christmas as part of this run down of wonderful times to visit, as it’s such a gorgeous time to come. The weather is mild, the decorations are beautiful, there’s lots of lovely activities for the family to enjoy and it’s so nice to get away from the chaos of family responsibilities and have a special Christmas your way.

Whenever you choose to come, make sure you browse our site for the best Costa del Sol holiday rentals. Don’t hesitate to contact us for advice on where to stay and what sorts of properties are best, depending on your group and the time of year you are visiting. 5 reasons you’ll love a holiday on the Costa del Sol this year

Costa Del Sol Holiday

As February is the month of love, we thought we’d show our love for the Costa del Sol and pick just 5 reasons why you should come here for a holiday this year.

  1. Enjoy amazing live music – Starlite Marbella have announced that both Elton John and Andrea Bocelli will be performing at this year’s month long celebration of music, with many more being announced over the coming months. We can’t wait to see Elton headline the concert on the 20th of July, running through his most loved hits and some new ones from his 33rd studio album. Why not come along and combine a great holiday with this outstanding concert?
  2. Visit the 5* destination of Marbella – Last month the Marbella Town Hall were at one of the leading tourism fairs, confirming their place amongst the world’s best tourist destinations due to their unbeatable combination of gastronomy, sports, beaches, natural beauty, culture, leisure and shopping. Last year was an incredible year, with an average hotel occupancy of 93% in August, and it looks like 2017 is going to be another great one. Marbella has so much to offer and is a stunning town to visit all year round. If you want to come in summer, make sure you book early to avoid disappointment; it’s going to be busy!
  3. Keep the whole family entertained – There are so many great activities for the kids to enjoy, from water parks and theme parks, to zoos and playgrounds, to indoor play centres, chocolate factories and sports camps. It’s great in the summer, or off peak – there’s always plenty to do.
  4. Get Active – The Costa del Sol offers much more than just a beach holiday, with amazing golf courses and water sports, brilliant places to hike and mountain bike and great programmes such as boot camps, tennis camps and much more. Best to choose spring and autumn for sports (apart from water sports of course) as otherwise it is too hot.
  5. Join the party – Spain is well known for its festivals and “ferias” and there’s something going on from April to October, from Fuengirola’s Feria de los Pueblos at the end of April, to Marbella’s feria in June, through to San Pedro’s in October and much more in between. Here’s a great list of Costa del Sol ferias so you can time your trip.

There are so many more than 5 reasons to holiday on the Costa del Sol, including the thousands of amazing villas and apartments that you can call home. We have picked the best Costa del Sol holiday rentals out there and have a great selection of options in all the most popular places, from luxury holiday homes to budget self-catering properties and everything in between. Costa del Sol – The perfect short-haul winter sun destination

Winter sun MarbellaThe Costa del Sol is blessed with some of the warmest winter temperatures in Europe and has a predominantly dry and temperate climate throughout the year with over 325 days of sunshine.

This makes it an excellent destination for affordable winter sun. It is just a short (and cheap) flight from the UK, or you can even travel by train.

We noticed this piece in the ‘Ask Gill’ section of The Telegraph, which illustrates this point exactly:

Sunny honeymoon in January

Daisy Drury from London wrote:

I’m getting married in mid-January and want to go somewhere warmish and lovely for our honeymoon. The problem is that both of us hate flying, so we would like to travel by car, train or boat – or a combination of these.

Gill Charlton of ‘Ask Gill’ replied:

Real warmth in the air is hard to come by in Europe in January. The interior is cold, the coast warmer but wetter. Andalusia in southern Spain (above is the town of Ronda) is the best bet for warmth in January, with daytime highs averaging 59F (15C), but there is a one-day-in-three chance of rain. Go by train: it takes 22 hours from London to Seville and costs from about £280 return per person including a two-berth sleeper on the train/hotel from Paris to Madrid.
