Once a month we will be giving our blog readers some useful vocabulary to make holidaying in Spain easier and more fun. You don’t need to speak Spanish on the Costa del Sol to get by, but if you make an effort people will really appreciate it and you will be very well looked after by the people you meet.
Step 1 – introducing yourself and meeting new people, here’s a simple dialogue with two people, practice it using your own information.
Manuel: Hola (Hi)
Julia: Hola (Hi)
Manuel: ¿Cómo estas? (How are you?)
Julia: Muy bien gracias, ¿y tu? (Very well thanks, and you?)
Manuel: Muy bien gracias (Very well thanks)
Julia: ¿Cómo te llamas? (What’s your name?)
Manuel: Me llamo Manuel. ¿Cómo te llamas? (My name is Manuel. What’s your name?)
Julia: Me llamo Julia (My name is Julia)
Manuel: Encantado (Pleased to meet you masculine)
Julia: Encantada (Pleased to meet you feminine)
Manuel: ¿Estas aquí de vacacion? (Are you here on holiday?)
Julia: Si (Yes)
Manuel: ¿Te gusta España? (Do you like Spain?)
Julia: Si me gusta mucho. ¿Vives aquí? (Yes, I like it very much. Do you live here?)
Manuel: Si, vivo en …….. ¿De dónde eres? (Yes, I live in …. Where are you from?)
Julia: Soy de Inglaterra. ¿De dónde eres? (I’m from England. Where are you from?)
Manuel: Soy de Sud America. ¿En que trabajas? (I’m from South America. What’s your job?)
Julia: Trabajo en inmobilario. ¿En que trabajas? ( I work in real estate. What’s your job?)
Manuel: Trabajo en informatica. ¿Te gusta tu trabajo? ( I work in IT. Do you like your job?)
Julia: Si mi gusta mucho. ¿Te gusta tu trabajo? (Yes, I like it a lot. Do you like your job?)
Manuel: No mi gusta mucho. (No I don’t like it much)
Julia: Hasta luego (See you later)
Manuel: Hasta luego (See you later)
